Orchestra FAQ

Who belongs to the Orchestra Parent Association?

All parents are automatically members if their student participates in ANY orchestra. The OPA is directed by an executive board and meets at the main campus.  Meetings are open to any orchestra parent.  A schedule of meeting dates is posted on the OPA page of the website.

What is the purpose of the Orchestra Parent Association?

The purpose of the OPA is to provide support for the NVHS Orchestra programs, directors and students; to provide financial support for Orchestra Curricular and Co-Curricular activities; to foster closer communications between parents/guardians, orchestra students and orchestra directors; and to promote and enhance local community interest in the Neuqua Valley High School Orchestras.

How can parents get involved?

The Neuqua Valley High School orchestra program could not function without its outstanding parent organization. The orchestra parents assist in many ways throughout the year.  Orchestra parents make our fundraising efforts possible.  Parents also assist with the Fine Arts Festival, Spooktacular, Crystal Concert, Masterworks and help with our travel plans. Read the orchestra handbook  and frequently check the website for information throughout the year.

Fundraisers

Each orchestra student can set up an "individual" student account, which receives funds based on the students' individual fundraising activities. The funds in this account go toward supporting that individual student for orchestra trips that take place during their tenure at Neuqua Valley High School. Orchestra Parents Association holds and tracks these funds for each participating student. E2007 - 2008 Fundraising Activities Ø      Fall- Citrus Sale - profit goes directly to student's individual account. Ø      Winter- Poinsettia Sales- profit goes directly to student's individual account. Ø      Barnes & Noble Book Fair – proceeds go directly to Orchestra Parents Association Ø      Patron of the Arts- Donation given to support the Orchestra program.  Name of donor listed in every program. This contest is similar to the District 204 Solo & Ensemble Festival, however points are tallied and scores are posted.  Also, there is less time available with the judges.  In order for students to be eligible to participate in the contest, they must have participated and performed in the District 204 Festival.

Fox Valley Music Festival:
One of the oldest music festivals in existence, the Fox Valley Music Festival is a two-day event.  Rehearsals are Sunday from 2-5pm and Monday beginning at 1pm.  The concert takes place on Monday evening at 7pm.  Students will have the opportunity to perform with a guest conductor and fellow students from the surrounding Fox Valley area.  Students must be able to attend both days of the festival.  This is a non-auditioned festival.
