Band Tours

In the 1997-1998 school year, we traveled to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN on our way to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.  At Vanderbilt, we worked with Professor Dennis Glocke from Penn State University.  While in Florida, the band participated in the Magic Music Days Parade through the Magic Kingdom and completed the Your Instrumental Workshop (where we experienced how movie soundtracks are made).  The tour also included fun activities such as the beach, the Kennedy Space Center, and a disco!  Students, parents, and staff had a wonderful time.

During Spring Break 2000 and 2004, we traveled to Gettysburg, Washington DC, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach.  The following are highlights from each "American History" tour:  a clinic session with Professor Glocke at Penn State College; a visit to Gettysburg National Park; visiting a rehearsal by the "President's Own" United States Marine Band; Arlington National Cemetery; performances on the Capitol steps and the Armed Services Retirement Home; a show in Ford's Theatre; a tour of Colonial Williamsburg; a performance of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony at the Kennedy Center, Virginia Beach; Busch Gardens, and King's Dominion.

In January 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2010, the Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra and the Steel Bands traveled to Florida to perform at Walt Disney World.  We performed in Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe and Downtown Disney to rousing applause from capacity audiences.  We also participated in several exciting clinics with members of the Disney production and performance staff.

Twice since the opening of NVHS, the marching band has celebrated the New Year with a parade performance.  In 2002, the Marching Wildcats traveled to London, England to perform in the London New Year's Day Parade.  As part of the trip to England, the NVHS Festival Band performed at Westminster Hall.  In 2007 and 2015, the Marching Wildcats traveled to Tampa, Florida to perform in the Outback Bowl New Year's Eve Parade and halftime show.  In addition, two concert bands and two jazz bands performed for the Outback Bowl Music Festival.

In 2006, the NVHS Festival Band, comprised of members of the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and Symphonic Winds traveled to Beijing and Xian, China during Spring Break.  They performed at various universities and concert halls throughout the two cities and on the Great Wall of China.

In 2009, musicians from the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, and Symphonic Bands combined on a concert tour to Berlin and Leipzig, Germany, and the city of Prague in the Czech Republic.  In 2012, NVHS traveled to Austria and Hungary. In 2015, NVHS traveled to Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona, Spain. In 2018, NVHS Bands traveled to Rome, Florence and Venice, Italy.

During the 2023-2024 school year, NVHS Bands will once again to Florida to participate in the ReliaQuest Bowl Music Festival. For information about that tour, click on the linked box in the upper right corner. Please use the password sent by your band teacher to access the documents.
